What is the Gospel?
What is the gospel? Simply put, the gospel is the Good News that Jesus Christ, the Righteous One, died for our sin, rose again, eternally triumphant over all His enemies, so that there is now no damnation for those who believe on Christ alone.
You can't outgrow the Gospel.
You will never outgrow your need for the gospel. Don’t ever think of the gospel as, “That’s the way you get saved, and then you get strong by leaving it and doing something else.” No! We are strengthened by God through the gospel every day, until the day we die. You never outgrow the need to preach to yourself the gospel.
The gospel is perfect for your needs.
That’s just gospel — perfectly timed, perfectly applied, perfectly suited for your needs. If your greatest need is more money, God would have sent an investor to help you. If your greatest need is a larger home, God would have sent a contractor. But your greatest need is forgiveness of your sin, so God sent Jesus to be your Savior. God came into history in Jesus Christ. He died in order to destroy the power of hell and death, Satan and sin, and He did it through Jesus Christ.
A plea to believe.
I know that there are people reading this who are not trusting Jesus Christ, and therefore can only expect condemnation. So I’m just going to plead with you here at the end: Lay down that rebellion. Lay it down. And simply embrace the Gospel that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Righteous One, died for your sins. He was raised on the third day, triumphant over all His enemies. He reigns until He puts all of his enemies under his feet. Forgiveness of sins and a right standing with God come freely through Jesus alone, by faith alone. I plead with you: Don’t try to be fix your life by your own strength. You know something is missing from your life. You cannot put it into words and you cannot figure out what it is, but I can tell you, it is Jesus. You were created by Him, for Him and to know Him. Don’t put it off. Admit that you are sinner. Believe that Jesus died for your sin and loves you dearly (John 3:16). And call upon Him now in prayer for salvation.
That's what the gospel is all about.
