1 Kings 9-11 nKing Solomon started out right and he was greatly blessed. He honored the Lord and the Lord protected him and blessed him abundantly. People from all over would travel to see him and seek his wisdom and would bring gifts in abundance. He had no enemies- there was peace on every side of him which allowed him to build the house of the Lord. Queen Sheeba sought his wisdom and came with many questions. Solomon gave an answer for every one of her questions and it says that because she saw how abundantly he was blessed and because of Soloman's answers that the spirit left her and she beleived in the Lord. I thought that was pretty amazing. It reminds me that we must be ready to give an answer anytime for why we believe. The Holy Spirit can literally change someone's heart through the answer we give. nIt goes on to show that Solomon's heart turned from God and he endulged in satisfying his freshly desires taking many wives and concubines. It says that the women turned his heart away and that he began to go after their gods which the Lord had warned him not to do. So enemies rose up against Solomon and when Solomon died a great portion of his kingdom was split up. His son did take a portion of the kingdom but the rest was no longer in Solomon's lineage. nAll the time reading this I thought about Israel and it's current condition. And the many years of conflict over Israel. It goes way back to the days of the bible and Solomon. There was peace there because God said that if Solomon kept His commandments and statutes and did not submit to other gods that He would bless Israel. But because Solomon turned away from the Lord, Israel was split and conflict rose up against Israel. nIt is so disappointing that Solomon turned from the Lord, but it all went to his head. He was blessed so abundantly that he forgot about the Lord. He began to seek after the world. That's why the word says that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. nWe have to make sure that we keep our eyes on the Lord always. If a day goes by that we don't humble ourselves before God, we have to be quick to get back to seeking and acknowledging Him. If the wisest man on earth can turn from God, then surely we have to be intentional in our walks with the Lord as well, lest the world pull us back in. nI thank the Lord for His word to remind us of what's important and to guide us through HIS unfailing wisdom!
