Psalm 28:6-7, "Blessed be the Lord, because He has heard the voice of my supplications! 7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him."

nDavid experienced in life some highs and lows. I just read this morning in 2 Samuel 18 of Absalom, his son's death. Absalom was hunting David's life when God allowed him to be hung in a tree. But still, David loved his son and wept. I cannot imagine losing a child. But David also knew some highs and in both the highs and the lows, David knew how to pray. Here in Psalm 28, David praises the Lord for hearing his prayers! He rejoices in the fact that the Lord is his "strength and his shield." David trusted in the Lord in the highs and the lows.

nDear friend, you and I are going to have highs and lows. May we trust the Lord in both, be strengthened by the Lord in prayer and never fail to trust and to praise Him. We too can find the Lord to be our strength and shield! He will be that ever present help in time of need. Let's pray big today and anchor our hope in Him! Amen! 🙏 He is able!

2 Samuel 16-18

nReading about David's life, I feel that David was very sorrowful in these chapters and I feel sad for him. God forgave David, but his actions were not without great consequences. David was humbled before the Lord due to the consequences of his actions.

nHis son Absolom was bitter toward him because David didn't take any action against his son Amnon when he raped Tamar. David was angry, but did nothing. I questioned why he did nothing as well. Maybe it was because he was in a time of weariness. Maybe he felt beat down by the consequences of his actions. I'm not sure, but I know that Absolom allowed David's lack of response and his brother's transgressions to make him very bitter. Absolom was so bitter that his bitterness is what drove him and he began looking alot like the brother that he hated when he went into his father's concubines. He allowed his bitterness to make him rise up against his father and it ultimately lead to his distruction.

nGod still had a plan that He was going to fullfill through David despite David's shortcomings. He had already forgiven David, but maybe David struggled to forgive himself. Great kings have fallen, but there is One Great King that never fails and that is Jesus Christ, our Lord God Almighty!
