1 Samuel 1-3

nHannah could not have children, but poured her heart out to the Lord and made a vow that if God gave her a son, she would dedicate him to the Lord. So God remembered her and gave her a son who she named Samuel. At a young age Samuel worshipped God and ministered to the Lord. One night the Lord calls Samuel many times, but it says that he didn't know the voice of the Lord yet. So Eli tells him that it's the Lord calling him. God speaks to Samuel about Eli's two sons who are wicked and that God is going to deal with them. When Samuel tells Eli what God told him, Eli responds kind of casually and says to let the Lord do what He will.

nThe scripture goes on to say that Samuel grew in the Lord and was favored with God and man. Samuel became established in Israel as a prophet of the Lord.

nIn this scripture I see the contrast between a mother who dedicated her son to the Lord and a man who served the Lord himself but the word says that he did not restrain his sons and they were wicked. I think that means that we can't be complacent in raising our children. We have to not only dedicate them to the Lord in theory, but we have to make the effort to lead them down the right path. We can't be casual about dedicating them to the Lord.
