John 8:58, "Jesus said to them, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.'" In John 8 we see Jesus speaking to these religious leaders. He has a lengthy conversation with them telling them the truth about who He is and it gets to the point that they pick up stones to throw at Jesus and Jesus divinely slips away. What heart our Lord has for people to know the truth and be set free from their sin. But these cling to their traditions of Abraham and would not even consider Jesus as the Messiah. Jesus told them in John 8:44 that they are of their father the devil. Truth but extremely hard for them to hear. Truth either will draw you closer to Jesus or push you further away. Jesus said here in verse 58, that He existed before Abraham and they could not wrap their minds around what He was proclaiming. They considered it blasphemy and wanted Jesus dead. Again, the truth will draw you closer or push you away! May we declare truth as did Jesus, because truth is the only thing that will set the captives free...even the religious captives!
Leviticus 19-21
God expected the children of Israel to refrain from following the customs of the time and the customs of the land which God gave to them. It was to be the land flowing with milk and honey. They were to be distinct from the rest of the world. They were to be holy for the Lord is holy. God is very specific in His instruction for Moses to share with the children of Israel. God made His expectations very clear for them.
John 8
The people bring an adulterous woman before Jesus saying that according to the law of Mose, she must be stoned. Jesus didn't agree. He said" He who is without sin, cast the first stone." And so none casted a stone and left. Jesus asks the woman " who condemns you?" And she responded by saying, " no one". Jesus tells her that He does not condemn her and to go and sin no more. This is a very clear picture that Jesus did not come to condemn. He came to save.
John 8
As Jesus began to speak about who He was, some began to beleive, while others continued to reject Him. Jesus said that they were not of God, which is why they did not beleive Him. He said that they were of the father of lies- the devil.
