Genesis 38- Judah married and had two sons. The forst son, Er was married to Tamar, but he was wicked in the sight of the Lord, so the Lord killed him, leaving his wife Tamar a widow. So then it was arranged for Onan to marry Tamar and produce an heir for his brother Er. Because the child would not have been his own heir, Onan disobeyed and the Lord struck him fown and killed him. So then Tamar was left a widow again so Judah tells her to go back to her father's house until the younger son is of age to marry her. So Tamar goes back to her father's house, but tricks Judah into conceiving with her. I see alot of trickery and wickedness from Judah's seed. What stood out to me is that God himself struck Er and Onan down himself because they were wicked. God despises the wicked. He is a Holy God.
Genesis 38-39, there are two men described in these two chapters, Judah and Joseph. Judah was is a king over his people and Joseph is a slave under the people. Which would you rather be? Judah saw what he thought was a prostitute and slept with her. The lady was his daughter-in-law dressed as a prostitute. She became pregnant and had two sons. Ugh. Joseph was serving in Potiphar's house when Potiphar's ice tried to seize him to sleep with her. He refused and she made up a lie about Joseph which sent him to prison. Now which would you rather be? The Bible says that God was with Joseph and all that he did, God made him prosper. Joseph soon became in charge of the prison. Which would you rather be: a guy in charge of a prison as a prisoner or a king? I would rather be in prison and have God with me, than to be a king over any people group. Amen! If you follow these two men through the Bible, you see that you reap what you sow. May we sow great things that honor the Lord that we may reap a bounty for the Lord instead of wickedness and destruction!
Genesis 39- I am amazed here at how the Lord moved in Joseph's life and how Joseph honored the Lord in his actions. The Lord's hand was on him, even in what should be unfortunate circumstances, but that just goes to show that you can't go wrong honoring the Lord! Hallelujah!
Acts 19- Paul was going all over still preaching and teaching the gospel and the Word of God. God was doing unusual miracles and works through Paul. Paul was laying hands on people and they were receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit where they began speaking in tongues and prophesying. Even handkerchiefs used by him and aprons he had worn were being used by the Lord to heal the sick. God can do incredible things through those willing to follow Him by denying themselves and taking up their crosses daily! Hallelujah!
There were so many that came to Christ through Paul and the disciples. Even witches that burned their books which noted to have costed alot of money. They were willing to throw it all away to FOLLOW Jesus Christ! On the flip side of that, there were stonesmiths who didn't want to let go of their idols just for the monetary gain they would forfeit if the chose Christ. But as the Word of God says, what does it profit a man to gain the world, but lose his soul? For the stonesmiths it wasn't Diana that was their ultimate idol, it was the love of money. We have to "count the cost", and that means letting go of the things of this world to follow Jesus and walk in His beautiful glory!
