Genesis 26-27, are chapters that allow us to look into the depths of the family of Isaac. And what do we see? Isaac is old and advanced in years. He asks his son Esau to go and kill him some game and cook it and he will give a blessing upon Esau. Isaac's wife Rebekah wants the other son Jacob to have the blessing. She convinces Jacob to lie to the point of dressing like Esau, smelling like Esau, dress him in animal fur to be hairy like Esau, and she cooked the meal and had Jacob deliver it to Isaac. Talk about deceit and trying to play God. Rebekah lied to her husband, got her son to lie and it created a big family feud because now Esau wants to kill his brother for taking away his birthright and now his blessing. Rebekah ends up losing her son Jacob, because he has to flee to avoid the tension with his brother. What Rebekah was trying to keep through her schemes and trickery, she ultimately lost for a long period of time. The reality, in Genesis 25:23, God had already promised that Jacob would be the blessed one of God and that the older brother Esau would serve him. Was the promise of God not enough that she had to take things into her own hands and mess them up.
Takeaway: we are not killing time when we wait upon the Lord! It is never wrong to do wrong trying to make something right. Whew. Let's allow God to be God, lead us and work in our lives knowing that His will is what we must pursue! God is never late or early, but always right on time! Let Him work! Put yourself in the place of allowing God to work! How do we do that? Surrender and obedience!
Genesis 26: We see that God kept his covenant and guided Isaac to the land where He was going to bless him. Though Isaac was envied by the Philistines, God used that to direct Isaac where he was supposed to go. Others were able to witness the goodness of God in Isaac's life and so a covenant of peace was made which allowed Isaac to prosper further and was instrumental in fullfilling the covenent God made with Abraham.
Genesis 27: What God had spoken to Rebekah was coming to fulfillment. Maybe Rebekah conspired because of what was spoken to her- she told Jacob that Isaac was going to bless Esau and conspired a way for Jacob to be the one to receive the blessing. Isaac loved Esau which may be why he was going to bless Esau and not Jacob, or maybe it was because Rebekah loved Esau why she wanted Jacob to be the one to receive the blessing- I'm not sure why there was such friction on the matter but I know that what God said would be was so.
Acts 13: Paul preaches the gospel of Jesus Christ and because the city gathered to hear it, he and the disciples were envied and prosecuted, but Paul and the disciples kicked off the dust from their feet and moved on. They were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit. The joy of the Lord was their strength. Nothing was more important to them than preaching the gospel and bringing people to Christ.
"So Isaac dwelt in Gerar. And the men of the place asked about his wife. And he said, "She is my sister"; for he was afraid to say, "She is my wife," because he thought, "lest the men of the place kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to behold.""
â€â€Genesis‬ â€26‬:â€6‬-â€7‬ â€NKJV‬‬
Here Isaac repeated the same mistake his father Abraham had, he said his wife was his sister out of fear. Isaac was faithful and obedient to Gods commands, just as Abraham was. But when fear crept in, they took matters into their own hands thinking that was best. Let God be in control all of the time.
