Genesis 22:12, "And he said, 'Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."
This is an amazing verse! WOW. The back story is Abraham being asked of God to take his son, his only son to the top of a mountain ridge and sacrifice him as a burnt offering (verse 2). Abraham in obedience and full surrender does as The Angel of the Lord asks him to do. Just as Abraham is about to bring the knife down upon Isaac, The Angel of the Lord stops him from doing so. But watch this: The Angel of the Lord is Jesus. This is a Christophany- An Old Testament appearance of Christ. Can you imagine Jesus watching all of this unfold, knowing that this is a foreshadow of what is to come to Himself? Jesus was later crucified on the same limestone ridge of Mount Moriah.
Notice also the end of the verse. Jesus (The Angel of the Lord) said, "...since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me." The word "Me" is capitalized, again signifying that this is an appearance of Jesus.
May we obey the Lord, regardless of what He asks us to do, even if it seems absolutely crazy to other people, it is not crazy to God if He is leading us to do it! May we walk in obedience as He leads!
Genesis 22-23: I keep thinking, surely God knew that Abraham would obedient to sacrifice his only son. I believe these events were used to paint a picture of what was to come, when from Abraham's seed, generations later, Jesus, God's one and only son would be the ultimate sacrifice and the only sacrifice ever needed from that point on. Perhaps God also wanted Abraham to know how great his faith and devotion was to God. We don't truly get to see how strong our devotion is to the Lord until He asks us to do something. If we are obedient, our faith and devotion grows. Also, I was amazed at how much God and his angels spoke to Abraham. In Genesis 23 I got to see how Abraham honored his wife Sarah in her death. He was willing to pay a hefty price to have her buried in a place where she would be honored. Though the sons of Heth offered to give it to him, he insisted on paying 400 shekels for it. It was because to see his will to honor her.
Acts 11: I began to understand more why the Lord gave Peter the vision and the message not to call unclean what God has called clean. The ones who had been saved were only preaching the gospel to the Jews. God isn't exclusive when it comes to whom he came to save. He came to save all- even those that society might deem as inferior. Something else that I found amazing from my understanding was that the disciples were operating in Spiritual gifts and delegated according to those gifts and the needs of those in need of releif. Agabus prophesied that there would be a famine throughout the world, so the desciples went to help the brethren and the elders. During this time, Jesus was spreading like wildfire! I also see that His disciples were not perfect, they had alot to learn still, but they just wanted to please the Lord and serve Him. God didn't leave them alone to figure it out on their own, He was speaking all along and they were submitting to Him as He revealed each peice of the picture!...As Jesus revealed His will to whom He chose, He also reveals it to us through His word! Thank God that He hasn't left us here to figure His will out on our own. He spoke then, and He's still speaking now!!! Hallelujah!
"And He said, "Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.""

Oh the faith that Abraham had, let us have that same faith as well. God provided for Abraham just as he provided His one and only son Jesus.
Wow! What a connection of Christ showing himself here in the Old Testament. Thank you pastor for helping me see the connection.
