In Matthew 27:45–56, we come to the heartbreaking and powerful moment of Jesus’ death on the cross. Darkness covers the land, Jesus cries out in agony, and then He willingly gives His life, paying the ultimate price for our sin. Yet even in this moment of suffering, we see that Jesus was not defeated—He was accomplishing God’s plan of redemption.
The death of Jesus reminds us of the seriousness of sin, the depth of God’s love, and the incredible sacrifice Christ made on our behalf. As we look to the cross, we are called to remember what Jesus endured so that we could be forgiven, restored, and brought into a relationship with God. The cross is where justice and mercy meet—and where we find the hope of salvation.
